Ohno wins 8th straight national short track title
Apolo Anton Ohno won two more individual events Sunday at the U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships to capture his eighth consecutive national title.
Ohno, the defending world champion and a five-time Olympic medalist, won the 1,000 and 3,000 meters to win the overall title with 4,140 points — nearly 300 more than J.R. Celski in second. Ohno has won every national title since 2001 and has 10 overall.

Ivica Kostelic wins World Cup slalom
Ivica Kostelic of Croatia has won a World Cup slalom for his second podium finish in two days on the Gran Risa course. Maintaining his lead from the first run, Kostelic won with a two-leg combined time of 1 minute, 39.83 seconds Monday.Kostelic placed second in the traditional giant slalom on the Gran Risa on Sunday, his best career result in the discipline. He has now won eight slaloms.

China's first Olympics leaves pride, regrets
Hundreds of millions of television viewers across the world saw China for the first time in August, or at least they saw a new side of the vast nation of 1.3 billion people. The extravagant opening and closing ceremonies and the perfectly organised Olympic events at spectacular venues won heartfelt praise from international Olympic officials and spurred deep national pride in many ordinary Chinese citizens.

Grainger to row on in gold hunt
Katherine Grainger has announced she will keep rowing until London 2012 in the hope of adding a gold medal to the silvers won at the last three Olympics. In Beijing, the 33-year-old became the only British woman in any sport to have won medals in three successive Games.

Innsbruck to host Youth Olympics
The Austrian city of Innsbruck was chosen on Friday to host the inaugural 2012 Winter Youth Olympics, beating Finland's Kuopio, the only other candidate on the shortlist. IOC President Jacques Rogge (pictured) pulled the name out of an envelope in a brief ceremony at the International Olympic Committee's Lausanne headquarters, hosted by two teenage presenters.
