Ohno wins 8th straight national short track title
Apolo Anton Ohno won two more individual events Sunday at the U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships to capture his eighth consecutive national title.
Ohno, the defending world champion and a five-time Olympic medalist, won the 1,000 and 3,000 meters to win the overall title with 4,140 points — nearly 300 more than J.R. Celski in second. Ohno has won every national title since 2001 and has 10 overall.

Ivica Kostelic wins World Cup slalom
Ivica Kostelic of Croatia has won a World Cup slalom for his second podium finish in two days on the Gran Risa course. Maintaining his lead from the first run, Kostelic won with a two-leg combined time of 1 minute, 39.83 seconds Monday.Kostelic placed second in the traditional giant slalom on the Gran Risa on Sunday, his best career result in the discipline. He has now won eight slaloms.

IOC has nearly $5 million tied to Madoff
The International Olympic Committee could lose nearly $5 million in investments tied to the Wall Street financier accused in a $50 billion financial scam.IOC finance commission chairman Richard Carrion told The Associated Press the Olympic body has about $4.8 million at risk in the alleged Ponzi scheme by Bernard Madoff."That could be the maximum loss," Carrion told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from Puerto Rico, adding that the IOC's money wasn't directly in Madoff funds. "They're in funds invested in Madoff funds."

Austria, Russia win biathlon World Cup relay races
Austria won a men’s biathlon World Cup relay for the first time in seven years Sunday, while Russia won its second straight women’s race.The team of Daniel Mesotitsch, Friedrich Pinter, Tobias Eberhard and Christoph Sumann missed five targets but avoided penalty laps to finish the 7.5-kilometer relay in 1 hour, 21 minutes, 23.1 seconds, Austria’s first victory since winning in Pokljuka, Slovenia, in 2001.

Vonn trails at windy World Cup skiing event
Anja Paerson of Sweden posted the fastest time in the opening super-giant slalom leg of a World Cup super-combined skiing event Friday.Paerson timed 57.84 seconds on a course that was shortened by almost a kilometer (0.62 miles) because of strong winds higher up the Corviglia piste. Canada's Emily Brydon was second fastest in 57.96 seconds and Tina Maze of Slovenia third, .30 back in 58.14.
